I can’t stop playing video games and I feel like my entire life is being wasted. What can I do?

I understand. There isn’t much that feels better than video gaming without turning to a drug, such as an opiate (very ill-advised).

The good news is that if you stop, other pursuits such as schoolwork and hobbies should become more enjoyable. It’s up to you whether you want to quit for good, but you may try taking a ten-week sabbatical to see how you feel. If you start playing video games again after ten weeks and find yourself spinning, you should probably quit.

So, how do you go about taking this break? Remove all of your gadgets from your bedroom and remove your games.

You may help yourself cope with unpleasant feelings by exercising first thing in the morning, getting up at the same time every day, limiting screen time as much as possible, and eating a nutritious meal, such as an omelet.

Aside from that, eating large breakfasts on a regular basis and exercising for 30 minutes or more are two well-documented techniques for enhancing cognitive health and reducing the harmful effects of negative emotions like stress and worry.

Find alternate activities, at least some of which should be enjoyable. Read novels, participate in role-playing or board games in person, attend parties or movie nights, join social clubs, hike state parks, watch birds, and stargaze.

So, learning how to live without bingeing on pleasure means knowing how to take care of one’s mental health. It’s not a big deal if you don’t succeed. Before and after they occasionally succeed, everyone fails. The key is to practice failing graciously and recovering more quickly.

It’s quite OK to seek assistance. It is something that everyone does. So, talk to a therapist about how to deal with unpleasant feelings and locate individuals you can trust. There are online groups, such as gaming quitters, where you may share your tale and receive support.

Prioritizing your own health is not self-centered. If you take a temporary or permanent sabbatical from video games to “discover yourself,” you will most likely feel better about yourself; trite but true.
