Rapper Mystikal was detained in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on suspicion of first-degree rape, felony domestic abuse by strangling, among other crimes.
After local police had spoken with a person who claimed they had been the victim of a sexual assault at a nearby hospital, the 51-year-old, actual name Michael Tyler, was taken into custody on Sunday night.
Tyler, who had a worldwide success with Shake Ya Ass in 2000 and was nominated for two Grammys as a result, was given a six-year term in 2004 after being found guilty of extortion and sexual assault.
After claiming that his hairdresser had stolen $80,000 worth of his checks, Tyler pled guilty to subjecting her to what the court described as “continuous sex activities.” The lady denied taking the cash.
After being arrested on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in 2012, Tyler was sentenced to three months in jail. Tyler’s lawyer subsequently described the incident as a “unfortunate episode” between two domestic partners “who had cared for one other for 10 years.” His two children’s mother was the victim.
In an April 2021 interview with the Associated Press, Tyler discussed changing his life and approaching music differently.
I was a horrible little rapper, dude, when I look back and listen to the songs, ” he remarked. Now, I often visualize myself rapping to God, so if I can do it, I’m proud.
